On August 28, 2007 a group of self storage industry owner/operators and vendors that serve the industry assembled at a meeting in Nashville, Tennessee. It was the consensus of this group that there was a need for an association in Tennessee that would promote the self storage industry and also be able to provide accurate information to current business owners as well as to those who are interested in starting a self storage business. The industry needed leadership and a voice to speak to the public and to government officials when legislation is pending which affects the industry.
Out of this meeting, the Tennessee Self Storage Association was formed as a nonprofit organization and with 35 members before the end of 2007 we officially affiliated with the National Self Storage Association. The goal of TNSSA is to assist the members of the association by providing accurate information on issues concerning lien laws, property taxes, educational opportunities, and other issues that the self storage industry faces. It also provides access to industry publications.
The officers are elected annually and volunteer their time and efforts to serve the association. The board of directors volunteer their time and serve two year terms.
The association hosts quarterly membership meetings that are rotated between Nashville, Knoxville, Memphis, and Chattanooga. The meetings begin with a time of networking with other business owners and operators from across the state, as well as vendors that might be present. After a nice lunch the officers give reports and updates. At each meeting an educational speaker is present to provide information pertinent to industry needs followed by a question and answer session. ---
